We're proud to share a meaningful milestone for our Calgary families: Golden Era Senior Home Care Services is now a certified Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) provider through Alberta Blue Cross, on behalf of Alberta Health Services. It's a certification that removes one of the biggest barriers families face when arranging in-home senior care in Calgary — the paperwork and the out-of-pocket cost of approved hours.
Part 2
CDHCI is an Alberta Health Services program that allows eligible Albertans to choose their own home care provider while AHS-funded hours are invoiced directly to Alberta Blue Cross. In practice, that means an approved Calgary senior can keep their same trusted Golden Era caregiver, receive care in the comfort of their own home, and never see an invoice for the hours AHS has authorized. The funding flows from AHS to Alberta Blue Cross to Golden Era — the family stays focused on the person, not the process.

For Calgary families, this changes the conversation. Home care has always been the preferred way to age in place, but many families delay it because they assume it must be paid privately. With CDHCI, eligible clients access funded hours of personal care, homemaking, and respite care through a certified provider like Golden Era — with no reimbursement forms, no waiting for cheques, and no confusion about what's covered.

Eligibility begins with a call to Health Link Alberta at 811. A case manager will complete a needs assessment and, if approved, build a care plan that specifies the number of funded hours per week. From there, the family simply chooses Golden Era as their CDHCI provider. Our team handles the invoicing directly with Alberta Blue Cross, and care can begin quickly — usually within days of the plan being finalized.

Certification also matters for quality. To become a CDHCI provider in Calgary, a home care company must meet standards for caregiver training, documentation, insurance, and clinical accountability. Golden Era's caregivers are certified Health Care Aides, police-checked with vulnerable sector screening, CPR-certified, and personally selected by founder Kara Agosta.
